Topic: The stories that we are told in history about things like the “pilgrims” and Thanksgiving are such bullshit! Europeans, like those known as the Separatists or Puritans, who themselves had faced persecution for their beliefs and actions, ended up turning around and eventually did much worse things to the Native American populations!
Paragraph 2:(150 words) Using the Zoom lecture and the assigned videos for this week:
Describe the story of Colonial English expansion that led to wars and the loss of Indian lands. Next, discuss the causes of expansion and the “justifications” that the English used for war against the Indian people and the dispossessing of their land. What did the actions of European colonists tell us about their view of Indian people? Provide specific examples from the ZOOM sessions and this week’s video.
Paragraph 3: (150 words) Using the Calloway readings, the Dunbar Ortiz chapters and the other readings assigned, address the following:
Describe briefly the societies Native Americans had previous to European intrusion in North America. Next, discuss the catastrophic results for Indian societies that the first contact with the Europeans had. Finally, explain what did Europeans actions demonstrate about their attitudes towards the Indian people. Students MUST USE AND CITE A DIRECT QUOTE FROM THE ASSIGNED CALLOWAY or DUNBAR- ORTIZ CHAPTERS. Explain why you selected the quote and how it refers to the questions posed in this second paragraph.
