Harvard Pre-College Programme
As someone who is interested in Psychology, and particularly the socio-cultural approach to the subject, the  course “Stereotypes and Attitudes: The Science of First Impressions” caught my attention at first glance. During a recent class, I came across the working of the “Schema theory” in humans and how as a potential model it illustrates the formation of stereotypes and prejudices. Discussing the many facets that underpin biases and errors in cognitive processes with my peers, further piqued my interest. Additionally, I’m fascinated by the influence of such thinking on behavior, and how this may impact everyday situations.
To be able to work on this subject with the philosophical touch offered by this course would be an amazing opportunity for me to broaden my thinking and understanding of the field. I believe this course will help build my analytical and evaluative skills. The academic rigor of this course will offer insight on the nature of college courses and their work-load, helping me frame my expectations of college life. I also believe that this course will be a stepping stone for me to build my speaking skills, interactive skills, and people – skills.
